During Women’s History Month the Baltimore World Trade Center hosted the Maryland Women’s Art: Women’s Vision exhibit. This is a continuum of this exhibit. Participating artists have agreed to donate a portion of sales to the Maryland Women’s Heritage Center.

The Center is dedicated to telling the story of Maryland’s women and will have exhibits on and about Maryland women in the arts and sciences, historical and contemporary contributions, forums and workshops on numerous issues, and workshops on leadership and equality advocacy for all ages and genders. Art Classes

Art Classes
Drawing and painting classes will be available for adults and young adults who are seeking to explore their own creativity. Art classes are open classes and students can choose to work for a little as an hour or as long as three hours. Drawing classes are usually done in one hour and painting classes are done two hours long sessions. However, the classes are geared to the needs of the students. The aim is to provide instruction based on students needs and abilities. The goal is that all students be successful artistically. Students will be given a list of art supplies needed for class.

Class Rates

$15.00 for a one hour class; $30.00 for two hour class; $45.00 for a three hour class.
Introductory Art Class Special – for a limited time only – 20% off on all class rates. $12.00 for one hour; $25.00 for two hours; and $30.00 for three hours. Gift certificates available.

Drawing
Learn the essential elements needed to draw – the basic shapes, composition, perspective and values. Learn how to control the medium and to put together a drawing that looks the way you want it to look.

Classes are one hour long minimum and begin with learning how to control the mediums of charcoal, graphic and pastel. Students will work from objects to create a still life drawing.

Painting
Learn how to create paintings that you will be proud to hang on your walls. Learn the elements of composition, value, color temperature and edge quality. Create a sense of depth and learn how to use light to creat form. Learn how to use pastel, as well as, oil as a painting medium.

Classes are two hours long minimum. beginners learn how to paint from still life and work from old master paintings. More experienced students may use reference photos or bring their own still life objects to create a painting of their choice.

Ellie has 20 years experience in developing and designing educational classes for adults and young people and is a specialist in educational programming and docent training. She received her B.F.A. in painting and drawing from Maryland Institute College of Art in 1985 and her M.A.T. in museum education from George Washington University in 1987.

Ellie believes in giving back to the community and through her pet portraits, she donates a portion of all pet portrait commissions to a variety of pet rescue organizations including Fallston Animal Rescue Movement, Harford County Animal Rescue and the Maryland ASPCA.

Ellie is a member of the Harford Artists Association, the Charcoal Club of Maryland, Maryland Women’s Heritage Center Program Committee and the Towsontowne Rotary Club.
